Cluj Napoca inima Transilvaniei

Veche capitală a Daciei Porolissensis, atestat documentar încă de acum două milenii de geograful grec Claudius Ptolomaeus(85-165), orasul a fost ridicat la rangul de municipiu în timpul domniei împaratului Hadrian (117-138), numindu-se Municipium Aelium Hadrianum Napoca, apoi la rangul de colonie, în jurul anului 180, sub Marcus Aurelius sau Commodus.

German merchants, who arrived here in the 12th century, rebuilt the medieval earthen walls of Clus in stone after the Tartar invasion of 1241. Known as Klausenburg to the Germans* and Kolosvar to the Hungarians, Cluj became Cluj Napoca in the 1970s, when the communist regime added the name of the old Roman settlement to emphasize its Daco-Roman origin.
